The Art of Elysium will present the musician a visionary honor at Jan. 6's HEAVEN fundraising gala.
John Legend has always been known for his versatile voice and his ability to deliver fantastic covers. In a new video for L.A. charity The Art of Elysium, the Grammy-winning musician does more than just deliver a great performance -- he signs and seals it too.
In a stripped-down video for the The Art of Elysium's HEAVEN fundraising gala, Legend plays the piano while singing Stevie Wonder's iconic 1970 Motown hit "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours." The upcoming HEAVEN gala, which will take place on Jan. 6, will honor Legend as their visionary; the honoree at this year's gala was none other than Wonder himself.
The clip opens in complete silence, with Legend walking into a freight elevator with a solitary Yamaha piano. O.c. Legend starts playing and singing, he begins channeling Wonder's iconic performance style, rocking along with the beat and even throwing in a few funky dance moves and vocal tricks. The cover is noticeably more bluesy than Wonder's, but still maintains the spirit of the original, complete with Legend's trademark ability to effortlessly jump from gruff lower notes to airy falsetto.
